Welcome to kchristensen.ink!
Hi everybody,
Welcome! I’m so excited to have you here. Your support means a lot, and I can’t wait to share the projects I’m working on with you!
To give you an idea of what this publication is, I’m a writer and editor currently finishing a degree in publishing at BYU. I write fiction, poetry and essays, and this publication is a place for me to (finally) share my writing with anyone who’s interested. I’ll be posting twice a month on Fridays, so keep an eye out for those newsletters in your inbox!
Also, since I’ve been thinking about it recently, I may as well tell you a little about my goals for this project while we’re here.
There is, for a variety of reasons, a belief that writing is a solitary venture. Which, at first glance, is a fair assumption. You sit down by yourself at the computer (the more isolation the better, if you’re the introverted type) and write for eight hours (the dream). Then, your book gets published (of course it does!), and readers buy it and take it home and read it in their armchairs by candlelight while their friends are all out partying without them (congratulations, you’ve contributed to the literary aesthetic). From creation to consumption, writing is meant to be enjoyed alone.
However.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from my studies, it’s this: writing is actually a collaborative art. You have editors and critics and writing groups and fandoms. You make author friends and go to writing conferences and peruse all the blogs and BookToks and BookTuber accounts so you can see what people are saying. You discuss the pieces you love with your family and friends and coworkers.
All of these communities exist because, like all art, writing is a form of communication. It’s meant to be read, shared, and talked about. Writing is the way we teach others to see the world through our eyes. It’s how we teach ourselves to see the world the way our friends and enemies do.
Writing is how we discover truth.
As for what that means for this project of mine: I want to share my writing with you and see what you make of it. I want to write pieces where you can find something new and see yourself reflected. I want to let you escape into someone else’s world and come out a better person for it. As I put all this together, I intend to make this a place where you can find some clarity, have some fun, and take a break from the craziness.
So thanks for joining me, and here’s to all the adventures we have ahead! I hope you’ll love them as much as I already do.
Have a fantastic week, and I’ll see you in two weeks!
Kira
P.S. If you appreciate what I do and would like a way to support me, consider subscribing to my paid tier! You’ll be helping me keep the lights on as I finish my degree.
If you can’t contribute but still would like to help out, consider sharing this newsletter with someone you think would be interested. Thank you so much!
